Helloooo Cuties~
I don't think y'all understand HOW eager I've been to write this post! I just want to have somewhere to come back to when I want to remember how happy this day made me. But not just me, honestly it was unanimously decided as a city. January 21, 2025 will go down in history as the day that healed New Orleans. As dramatic as that sounds, it's the honest truth. The new year had a rough start to say the least. The city was struck by a terrorist attack, which was unheard of to us. Never did we imagine being a target. Many lives were lost and just when we thought that had set the tone of 2025, we got a record breaking snow day.
I've never seen the city look so beautiful. 10 inches of snow! New Orleans hasn't seen anything like this since 1895. And it brought out so much childlike joy in adults. It gave us all a moment to just stop and feel grounded. After the January 1st attack, some said "how could we just carry on so quickly the next day". I saw many people on socials say it felt like a much needed reset after so much hurt.
The night before, I remember watching the news and thinking "they're predicting snow . . . yeah right". Last time we got "snow" it was ice barely covering the roads. Not even enough to be measured, so it didn't go on record. So I was doubtful honestly. I figured I'd be going to work like any other cold winter day. But when I woke up to my mom with an excited hushed voice asking "y'all wanna go see the snow?" I had to make sure I wasn't dreaming. My sister ran downstairs first and I could hear her shrieking. I scrambled for my glasses and ran to the nearest window and sure enough. Snow. Actual snow! My next thought was "what about work?" Now you got to realize New Orleans isn't built for snow. If roads just get icy, we shut down as a city. So I was happy to find out, they closed my job because of the weather!! YIPPIE SNOW DAY!!
My sister tossed on enough layers and was already out playing like a big kid. I thought I'd get a little cute for the occasion? But y'all . . . I need to invest in some waterproof eyeliner because I looked a MESS in no time! Why didn't anyone tell me the snow melts on your face so quickly?! (lmfaooo)
Trying not to fall (lol)
I tried throwing a snowball at my sister. It's tougher than I thought!

Coat . . . Hollister
Sweater . . . Express
Skirt . . . Forever21
Boots . . . Demonia
Hat / muffs . . . offbrand
Scarf . . . Juicy Couture
Gloves / tights . . . eBay

Little sister 🫶🏽(ꈍᴗꈍ)♡ She hates the cold so she looks like burrito (lol).
I'm running away and never coming baaaack! 🗣️📢
Keeping my eyes open for photos also proved to be very tough (lol). Gotta give me props for looking sort of cute in these pics.
Believe it or not, we only lasted about 15 minutes out there. 😭 The wind cut through my clothes and I needed a break. Buuuuut that winter wonderland just kept brewing and the snow kept building. We had to go back out!! Plus we thought of a tiktok we could film outside so we practiced for a while before getting dressed again. My coat was still damp from the snow and my hair was wet too 😭😭. I put on a wig to protect my hair this time.
LOOKIT THE SNOW!
By this time the snowfall had stopped. The snow looked so fluffy! We took some more aesthetically pleasing photos before filming our tiktok video~
Letting her have her model moment~
The sun started to set and it all looked so magical. Most of the little kids had gone inside. I didn't want to leave this ethereal space.
One last hoorah before calling it a day!
It took so many years to finally experience this, that I didn't want this day to end. Worst part is my job was back to functioning the next day. (ᗒᗣᗕ) Ninety percent of the employees called in, unable to get to work. I was insane enough to go in (let's get this bread I guess).
Morning walk views~ I almost busted my ass at least twice on slick ice (lmaooo). Work was a fiasco. Customers actually came to shop despite most roads being closed. We had some pipes burst at the doors so customers were trapped inside after shopping until we shut the water off. Alarms were going off all morning. I don't understand why we were even open. But my girl Brandi came to work too. We kept each other sane. The store closed early and Brandi drove me home so I wouldn't be walking home in the dark. What would I do without her. ♥
Any who, I'm beginning to ramble~ Next post will be good! I promise!
xoxo, Amiman ♥
First of all wtf happened on the first day of the year :|
ReplyDeleteSecond of all... THE SNOW IS MAGICAL. I totally feel you on this!!! Last time it snowed in Athens was back in '22 & I had a really big walk just to immerse myself into the whole magic.
It feels magical for some reason when everything's covered with snow, kinda cosy in a way, I don't know how.
Feels like you're walking on clouds~~ I feel like it must snow in heaven ( ᴗ͈ˬᴗ͈)ഒ
DeleteAnd the attack? A man drove a truck into a crowd striking people and he shot into the crowd as well. 14 people were killed. And later on they discovered there was a bombing attempt. There have been some memorials but I can't imagine the pain these families have endured 🥀
Coming from NY I know this feeling all too well! But I'm so very glad that they stopped him. Sent all my prayers to those families affected by his actions. But that definitely was a magical snow. Nature knows how to heal and I'm so happy you got to experience her beauty.
ReplyDeleteI love all of the pics! You were so brave in that cold but oh so cute!!!! <3 Definitely worth it!
Praying no one ever experiences anything horrible like that event ever again.
Indeed 🥀 it put so much fear in everyone. Every event will be forever changed now. I can only imagine how 911 has effected NY. It altered the world tbh. 😔
DeleteAnd thank you so much! We had too much fun with this. I really don't think we'll get another winter like this one for a long time. The timing was everything. We needed this day!
WHAT I had no idea about the terrorist attack earlier in the year! 😿
ReplyDeleteThe snow photos look nice, though! Seems like you all had a lot of fun! It's definitely dangerous to drive in snow if you're not experienced! Hope you all did OK. The pipes bursting is a real danger as well in areas that freeze! You're a real trooper for going in to work anyway!!
I think a total of 12 people came to work for the hours we were operating (lol). It was so much going on. The sight of the snow was amazing, hope to see it again! But locals aren't trained here to deal with it. The city needs to have the right stuff for the roads and sell us proper things for our cars / wheels.
DeleteAnd 😔 now there's so much going on here. 10 inmates broke out of a prison near me; 6 are still missing / roaming. And I'm sick in bed with covid. This is too much.
Yeah if snow isn't a regular thing, it wouldn't make sense for shops to stock snow gear as it'd be a waste of inventory and storage space.
Delete🙀Prison break?? I hope they weren't in for violent crimes at least? Get well soon. It does sound like you're going through a lot!!
I know at least one had murder charges 😩. Currently we're down to just 2 escaped prisoners. Also I'm finally healthy again! ❤️🩹
Delete🙀 Hope the dangerous ones get caught at least >_<;;
DeleteGlad to hear you've recovered!!!
I am actually missing the snow days here...what you show is just an average day here in winter atm...normally we would have snow that goes at least up to your knees!! We haven't had that in years. I love winterwalks through the snow though...it is very relaxing <3
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine this being regular or happening for multiple days in a row! (@.@) It'd be beautiful and peaceful to watch or walk through I'm sure~ If I ever move up north where this is a possibility, it's going to take me ages to get used to it.
